The Navel Show

The Navel Show

1991 – 18 min, SD video, installation for one monitor

A monitor is sitting on a black, 80-cm-high wooden pedestal, which is standing in the middle of the space. The image on the monitor shows a navel. Every now and then, the viewer sees a hand scratch or stick a finger into the navel. Writing also appears on the screen sometimes. Then the navel (or the monitor? or the video tape? or the video artist? or the television? or the artist herself?) asserts that it is the "center of the world."

This installation was on show at "KunstBetrieb Dachau," Dachau, near Munich, a joint exhibition with Barbara Hammann, March 7 - April 8, 1991.
