Cut, Cut, Cut - short + painless II

1993 – 1:08 min

A short video clip. Here, the cut is not only used as an editing mode, but in a literal/visual sense, as a method of cutting off. You see a knife cutting heads like paper (using the chroma-key effect), and parts of faces, noses, necks and hair are cut off. Here, the brutality of the video or film-editing process is carried to the extreme. Just like in the news on TV: we are accustomed to seeing one dead body after another in cut after cut. Each day, these images of people killed by weapons are beamed into our living rooms in a staccato-like rhythm.

The original sounds of cutting were edited together into a rhythmic audio piece by Alfred Banze.
